An assortment of our most popular essential oils with a wide range of benefits and uses.

Basil Essential Oil – (Ocimum Canum) has a fresh and herby scent with notes of anise or liquorice. It is light yellow in colour, and is extracted via steam distillation from the basil herb. Once a staple of traditional Asian Indian medicine, basil is now best known for its culinary uses. However, this powerful oil still has many other benefits. Basil has a calming scent, soothing to both the mind and the body. Its volatile oils and distinctive scent can also help to clear pests and leave your home clean and hygienic.

Bergamot Essential Oil - (Citrus Bergamia) has a pleasantly fresh, lemony scent and is pale green in colour. It is extracted from the peel of the fruit of the Citrus Bergamia tree, known as the Bergamot orange. It is light green in colour, with a fresh, clean citrus aroma. As well as its beautiful, delicate scent, it's known for balancing your emotions, in particular if you are feeling anxious. It is also frequently used as a home made insect repellent.

Garden Mint Essential Oil – (Mentha Sachalinensis) has a slightly sweeter minty aroma then Peppermint. It is extracted from the leaves via steam distillation. As with other essential oils in the mint family, Garden Mint essential oil is known to improve respiration and digestion with a revitalizing stimulating aura and scent.

Grapefruit (White) Essential Oil - (Citrus Paradisi) is pale yellow in colour. It has a slightly sharper scent than pink grapefruit oil, but nonetheless retains a sweet, juicy aroma. Grapefruit essential oil is extracted from the peel of the grapefruit through cold pressing. Grapefruit essential oil is popular due to its clean, invigorating scent which is also reported to boost motivation and focus. It is often used to treat skin blemishes when diluted for massage.

Lavender (French) Essential Oil – (Lavandula Angustifolia) is almost clear in colour, with a fresh, floral scent. Differing from the sweetness of traditional English lavender, French lavender still has that same floral base, but its herbaceous notes give it a more camphorous aroma. This oil is extracted via steam distillation from lavender plants grown in France. Lavender is a calming oil, traditionally used for its healing properties. It has a powerful ability to treat wounds and protect from harmful bacteria, and it can also provide relief from pain. An incredibly multipurpose oil, it has also been shown to lessen symptoms of depression and anxiety. Diffusing lavender oil in your home can help to calm your worries and lift your mood, whilst using it in home cleaners can keep pests and harmful bacteria at bay. Some research even suggests that lavender oil can be beneficial for hair growth.

Lemon Essential Oil - (Citrus Limomum) has a sharp, fruity scent and is pale yellow in colour. Lemon essential oil is extracted from the peel of the fruit via steam distillation. Due to a high level of anti-oxidants, Lemon essential oil has powerful toning, nourishing and cleansing properties and as such is commonly used on the skin. It is also commonly used to relief nausea, and aid digestion.

Lemon Verbena Essential Oil – (Aloysia Citrodora) has a sweet fresh, citrus scent and is pale olive or yellow in colour. It is reported to have reviving, rejuvenating qualities and is known to help in creating a positive atmosphere and as a mood booster.

Lime Essential Oil - (Citrus Aurantifolia) has a fresh, citrus scent and is almost colourless. It is created from cold pressing the peel of the lime fruit. Lime essential oil has many applications, and is commonly used to avoid feelings of lethargy due to its revitalising properties. Lime essential oil is also known as an astringent and commonly used in skincare and to reduce ageing. As a source of vitamin C it also boosts immune system, and acts as an anti-oxidant.

Mandarin Essential Oil - (Citrus Reticulata) has a bright, fruity scent and is orange in colour. It is extracted by cold pressing the peel of the fruit. As Mandarin essential oil is mild it is often used to reduce the appearance of scars and stretchmarks. Its beautiful aroma is also reported to assist with nausea and anxiety and aiding with digestion.

Orange (Bitter) Essential Oil  - (Citrus Aurantium) has a sharp, vibrant scent and is orange to yellow in colour. It is extracted by cold pressing the peel of the Seville orange fruit. Bitter Orange essential oil is considered by many to be slightly more potent that its Sweet Orange counterpart. It is known for having cleansing, toning and purifying properties and thus is frequently used in skincare. Its scent is said to have a clarifying effect on the mind and therefore is often used to combat stress.

Orange (Sweet) Essential Oil - (Citrus Sinensis) has a scent that is both sweet and vibrant and is orange to yellow in colour. The oil itself comes from a slightly different species as bitter orange. It has a sweeter scent as the name would suggest, and is cold pressed from the peel of the fruit. It is often used as a natural air freshener because of its delicious scent and reportedly also improves mood and clarity of mind due to the aroma.

Patchouli Sweet (Indian) Essential Oil – (Pogostemon Cablin) has a smoky, earthy scent with a sweet muskiness. This oil is of the rarer Indian variety and has a more pronounced sweetness than Indonesian patchouli oil. Fragrant patchouli was once used to scent Indian fabrics and keep them safe from moths. These days, the odour-masking, pest-repellent properties of the oil make it a popular household choice. Patchouli’s deep cleansing abilities make it ideal for skin, as do its regenerative, irritation-soothing properties. The oil is also said to balance mood.

Tea Tree Essential Oil – (Melaleuca Alternifolia) has a strong, herby scent with a powerful tangy quality. It is almost clear in colour and is extracted from the melaleuca alternifolia tree, found in Australia. The leaves of the tree are steam distilled to separate the natural oil from the plant material. Tea tree is well known as one of the most therapeutic essential oils due to its many benefits for the skin and airways. Able to fight infections and relieve congestion, it has been famous for its medicinal benefits for centuries, and is commonly used to treat everyday illnesses such as the common cold. Its skin-cleansing, breath-freshening abilities also make it a great oil to keep in the bathroom cabinet.

Ylang Ylang (Complete) Essential Oil – (Cananga Odorata) is a yellowish oil with an exotic floral sweetness. The oil is extracted via steam distillation from the flowers of the ylang ylang tree, which is grown throughout Asia. Called the 'flower of flowers', ylang ylang's rich floral scent is famous for many reasons, one of which being that it is one of the primary ingredients in the iconic Chanel No. 5. This delicate oil has many applications beyond its beautiful scent, however, and is often used to soothe stress, boost confidence, and support overall health. Ylang ylang is said to boost immune response, and the oil also has strong antibacterial and antifungal properties.
